.Let’s talk about something that’s more important than your logo, more magnetic than your elevator pitch, and more critical than your Canva color palette. Ready?

It’s your voice.

Not just the sounds that bounce off your vocal cords. I mean your actual, full-on, all-in, unapologetically-you voice.

If you’ve ever wondered why Ursula, the sea witch from The Little Mermaid, didn’t ask Ariel for her fins, her beauty, or her collection of dinglehoppers, let me tell you why she went straight for the vocal cords: because your voice is where your power lives. And sis, she knew it.

Voice Is Brand. Voice Is Authority. Voice Is… Everything.

In your business – especially if you’re a small business owner, podcaster, or creative entrepreneur – your voice is what builds trust. It tells people:

  • Who you are.

  • What you believe in.

  • Why they should care.

And no, I don’t mean just the audio files you upload. I’m talking about your perspective, your tone, your rhythm, your storytelling, your you-ness. Your voice is how people connect with you. It’s what makes your brand unforgettable.

That’s why I – a thick, middle-aged Black woman with three kids and stretch marks that rival tiger stripes – leaned into podcasting even when it scared the hell out of me. I knew I had something to say. I knew I had a voice. Editing felt like Mount Everest in stilettos, but I wasn’t going to let fear mute my message.

Ursula Knew the Assignment

Let’s bring it back to our tentacled villainess for a second. Ursula didn’t just take Ariel’s voice for giggles. She took it because:

  • It made Ariel memorable.

  • It held her magic.

  • It was her greatest tool for connection.

That’s exactly what your voice does in your business. When you hide it behind overly polished corporate speak or only say what you think people want to hear, you’re handing your Ursula the power. And guess what? She doesn’t deserve it.

Find Your Voice, Then Amplify It

I started my business, Crackers In Soup, because I knew I could help people bring their voice – their message – into the world. But before I could do that, I had to reclaim mine. Show notes? I slayed them. Guest outreach? Nailed it. Editing? It was like fighting Moby Dick blindfolded, but I learned.

Now? My voice – and the voices of my clients – are changing the damn game.

Your Voice Isn’t Optional. It’s Essential.

So here’s my challenge to you:

  • If you’ve been playing small, stop.

  • If you’ve been editing out the parts of you that make people lean in, reinsert them.

  • And if you’ve been giving other people the microphone because you don’t think you’re ready yet, girl, you were born ready.

Ursula may have tried to silence Ariel. But in the end, it was that voice – that bold, beautiful, powerful voice – that saved her.

Now go out there and use yours like your business depends on it. Because it does.
